I'm going to return this game - who's with me?
I've been playing 2k since the Dreamcast. I've purchased a few Live games here and there since then, but 2k has been the staple franchise for me. I've been a loyal fan, and for the most part, I've really enjoyed the games.
However, like many others here right now, I think this game is fundamentally broken - broken to the point where patches simply can't fix all the problems. Unlike many of you, I don't play much online; my problems are exclusive to two particular modes: 1) My Player 2) NBA Today (quick play).
My Player:
First, framerate. I didn't notice any framerate issues in summer league or training camp. Things were smooth and playable. However, I was picked up by the Miami Heat after training camp (no D League, for whatever reason), and every single game I have played since has been literally unplayable. I've had to shut the game off multiple times because of how severely the framerate chugs. There's no predictability to it. I seems to happen more down low, but it can and does happen anywhere on the court. Can't contest shots, can't release my own jumpshot at the right time, end up out of position, etc., etc. Can't succeed in 2k with all those problems ...
Second, I'm currently rated as a 49 -- a 49!!! And I'm in the NBA? What the heck is that about? My player is so unskilled that he can't do anything but make a wide open 15 footer!! I rarely meet any of the goals set by the Insider, and I wind up neeting 300-600 skill points per game - hardly enough to improve my player at all. But there's no option to force my guy into the D-League!!! What are you thinking, 2k? There has to be a way to get into the Developmental League so that players can Develop!
Third, after reading the enormous trouble that people have had in the advanced stages of My Player mode (Save files being corrupted, black screens, etc.), I've decided to put a halt on My Player. So yeah, they've sold a game touting a new feature which is unplayable.
I want my money back, and I will get it.
NBA Today (quick games, too):
First, framerate issues. Every single game I've played, and I'm not exaggerating out of anger or spite, is hamstrung by framerate issues to the point where it's impossible to compete. The ball goes inside, the FR chugs, and the AI gets a post move off without me even being able to see it -- literally.
Second, the 2k servers ... it can take literally up to 5 minutes for NBA Today to actually load. It's not my connect (16 MB/S); it's a broken game.
Association:
Association has been my favorite part of 2k gaming. I love having control of my favorite franchise. However, I have yet to begin one. The reason? There are two.
First, if 2k patches this game and manages to fix the myriad of problems (not holding my breath, because there are simply so many problems), it's realistic to think that old saved games might have to be deleted. I'm not into investing time into something thath as to be wiped.
Second, after perusing this forum, I simply don't want to take the risk that I'll begin an association only to have the game freeze at some random point in the future. I'm not into investing time into something that will glitch and freeze.
So, to conclude: this game borders on unplayable. I realize there is an official thread about framerate issues, and I've posted there. But let's be honest: if the developers played this game for more than 10 minutes before releasing it, they had to realize that it was broken. Framerate issues don't just happen out of timeouts, or during intros, or while spotlights are flying around the arena - the framerate slows down at least 30% of time during actual gameplay, to the point where it's not possible to actually compete with the AI.
Frankly, I feel as if 2k10 robbed me blind, which is why I'm returning this game. I purchased it on October 7, so I have until Nov. 6 to return it (for in-store credit, but still that's something). If the game isn't patched and fixed by then, I will be returning this game. And if it's patched and fixed after I've returned it, I will not buy a new copy; instead, I will buy a used copy, so that my purchase doesn't boost 2k's sales for this game.
I'm only one person, and one person is powerless in the face of a corporate juggernaut like 2k. My voice doesn't mean anything to them, and I'm aware of that. But, you're not keeping my $60.00, not for this piece of garbage. And you'd better believe that I'm never picking up one of your games again until I know for a fact that it's not equally as bad as this is.
Anyone else with me?
