Post (un)Official BIGS 3 Wishlist *Updated 31/10/09*

As we all know, The BIGS 3 is on the way and 2K have a Suggestions thread. As the author of the longest post in that thread and the creator of the unOfficial October Roster Update, I feel I am well placed to offer feedback to Blue Castle. First of all, I would like to make it clear that I am one of The BIGS 2's biggest fans, and despite all of my suggestions to improve the game, it is still my favourite sports game of this generation. A few changes to add more depth and replay value are all that is needed to perfect this excellent game. I don't know when development begins, or if it already has, but here is my wishlist for The BIGS 3:

Become A Legend Feedback

1. First of all, the most important change needed to improve Become A Legend and add replay value would be to add Pitcher, Catcher and possibly even Designated Hitter careers.

A Pitcher career would involve completely new challenges, such as getting a certain number of strikeouts, scoreless innings, shutouts and no hitters. You could start off as a long reliever or left handed specialist, move into middle relief, then set-up before moving on to closing out games or becoming a starter. Scenario challenges could be used effectively in this situation, to get a win a middle or long reliever, a hold as a set-up man or a save as a closer. New statistical categories would have to be introduced to make this possible.

Catchers, on the other hand, would be able to do the same things as other fielders, such as throwing out runners, hits, RBIs and Home Runs. They could also throw out runners attempting to steal. Catchers would help to prevent a player's low initial stats from compromising the field by throwing too slowly to make a double play or dropping
simple catches.

Designated Hitters would have the simplest career of all, used only in AL matches and being challenged to hit higher numbers of hits, RBIs and HRs than regular fielders. This would be an enjoyable option for novice players and veterans alike, as everyone enjoys hitting home runs. Playing as a DH would prevent a player's Legend from compromising thier field in the early stages of their career as they would only appear to bat.

2. At the beginning of the career, add Minor League teams. Keep this relatively short, like the Mexican and Japanese sections of The Bigs 2. The Minor Leagues would provide a good environment for your player to learn the ropes without feeling hopelessly outclassed, and would help to add authenticity to the game.

3. Before each season, bring back Spring Training. This would provide an environment for players to improve their Legends' stats without the pressure of having to win every game. Teams could also play inter-squad games and matches against minor league affiliates to add vareity.

4. Keep off-season trips to Japan and Mexico. Playing against Nakayoshi and Del Toro were highlights of the original game and the atmosphere of the Shiro Dome was the best of any stadium in The BIGS 2.

5. When your player reaches Cooperstown, make the teams of Legends that you play against unlockable, to see how they would fare against modern All Star teams. Secondly, make more classic stadiums, one for each of the captains (Brooks Robinson, Rod Carew etc). Thirdly, add a short film of the team captain's greatest achievements in baseball, such as Kirk Gibson's World Series winning homerun, Babe Ruth's called shot, Carlton Fisk's home run waved fair. Fourthly, add more Legends, such as Hank Aaron and Lou Gehrig. Finally, add some more signature animations and gear that reflect the era that the Legends played in.

6. Allow the player to choose how many innings each game lasts: 3,5,7 or 9.

7. For the contact game, give the Human and AI the same colours to hit to prevent unfair losses due to the random allocation of green and red balls.

8. Allow the player to choose their power-up, even No-Doubter home-runs and +2 to stat X. This may sound unbalanced, but No-Doubters would be extremely difficult to hit early in your career and would reward the player for persistance at the end of the game mode. Challlenges which assume the player has a certain special ability would also have to go.

9. Add an arm mini-game. Throwing out runners is the sort of frustrating, luck-based challenge that detracts from the gameplay experience and lowers review scores.

10. Allow players to choose to miss out on stat bonuses. Having to repeat a game you won convincingly because the AI didn't aim towards your Legend is frustrating and unfair. Allow players to choose to continue if they win, with a confirmation box that says "Are you sure you want to continue?" You will miss out on a stat bonus." This could add vareity by allowing players to play through career mode with a player who has poor stats, instead of 5 stars in everything.

11. Replace the Power Derby with the Home Run Derby. This would add authticity and vareity to the game.

Season Mode Feedback

1. Change starting rotations from 3 men to 5 men. This would reduce the number of wins for pitchers and would make reaching 20 wins an achievement, rather an inevitability.

2. Add the option of AI trades. The season can seem a bit lifeless when the player is the only one making trades, so it would be nice if it was possible for the AI to do so.

3. Add multiple seasons. It's a bit disappointing that once the season finishes you get an awards screen and booted to the main menu instead of having a chance to continue with your team for as many seasons as you want.

5. Improve the calendar screen. Instead of showing a probable pitcher's "star rating", show their Win/Loss, Earned Run Average and Innings Pitched.

6. Add authentic awards. I'm sure that I'm not the only player who would rather win a Hank Aaron or Cy Young Award than a Rainmaker or (X)L Outstanding Pitcher Award. Also add proper Silver Slugger and Golden Glove Awards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...aseball_awards

7. Improve stat tracking. Allow players to see who the Overall, League, and Divisional leaders are for important statistics such as Home Runs, RBIs, Stolen Bases and Batting Average. This would help players to find out who their players were competing with for end of season awards in these categories.

8 Add shorter season lengths. 162 games can take a very long time to complete. Having shorter seasons would be a welcome option.
