Operation Ivy, named after the US series of nuclear tests, was an influential ska punk band formed in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area in 1987. Though lasting only two years, the band had left an indelible mark on punk music with tracks like “Take Warning” and “Sound System” still rock radio staples to this day. They released the album Energy on Lookout! Records in May 1989 and the band broke up that same month. Two of the band’s members, Armstrong and Freeman, went on to play for Rancid. Energy was re-released by Hellcat Records in 2006 as a self-titled compilation album, but the band has no plans to reunite.
